I am a Warcraft Fan.

Hi guys! For my first book review, I will be sharing my thoughts on a World of Warcraft Book, Arthas: Rise Of The Lich King by Christie Golden. For those who does not know, World of Warcraft ("WOW") is a MMORPG released by Blizzard Entertainment and Arthas is one of the more prominent figures in the Warcraft Lore. I started playing WOW in year 2006 and have enjoyed it thoroughly. Til today, I am still playing and enjoying it.

Like the name suggests, we follows Arthas's journey as a paladin of the Silver Hand to becoming the Lich King. Arthas is a character known to many and he is like the Anakin of World of Warcraft.

In the book, we get to explore more into Arthas's feelings and emotions during significant events such as the Purge of Stratholme as well as his feelings towards Jaina. Although his actions can be condemned by some, we get to find out the rationale behind his action and as the story progresses, I sympathise with him. It all started when all he wanted to achieve was to do good and save his people however, because he has walked on towards the path of no return, he continues on with his journey.

I like how the story closes with Arthas removing one of the final obstacle that is holding him back and that is his shred of humanity. Even til the end, Arthas ponder about his actions. He is not a one-sided chracter but rather, a complicated one. We get to see how because of the circumstances, he deemed it a must to take on extreme measures. All of these causes him to become the Lich King in the end.

Arthas's story has been explained in Warcraft 3 however, this book provides a more in-depth explanation of his story.

Overall, this was a good read and I highly recommends it!
